Earlier this year, when we first noticed this, we were teased with the Titleist mini driver TSR 2-drewno in March. We saw many players testing the TSR 2-wood throughout the year as the mini driver phenomenon continued to spread.
This week, Titleist began releasing the mini GT280 on tour at The Sentry, but it hasn’t revealed any details under the hood. Kapalua is a beautiful backdrop to launch a new club, and something like a mini driver or 2-wood probably has a place in many bags.

TSR 2-Wood Champion title in March 2024
From what we can see, there are some similarities and differences between the TSR 2-wood we saw earlier and the new GT280. The biggest and most functional similarity is the twin weights on the sole and rear of the GT280. These weights should be used to configure the GT280 as a spin-killing machine with more weight in the front and a more forgiving fairway finder with more weight in the back. Now the weights have changed to match the rest of the wooden GT line, looking a bit smaller and sleeker. The size of the GT280 appears to be slightly smaller and closer to the size of the fairway wood compared to the competition’s mini drivers.
We can assume that the GT280 name means the head is 280cc, but Titleist has yet to confirm the true size. In our opinion, the head looks much more versatile if you want to hit the ground with it than other mini drivers on the market.
We’ve only seen photos of the 13-degree head, but Titleist has included a SureFit hose system allowing you to connect the GT280 and add or subtract loft for the GT280 to be connected to the player. The headstock is painted a classic gloss black, similar to the GT’s wood lines, and it will be interesting to find out if the crown features the same Matrix Polymer construction as its driver and fairway siblings. The face also has full scoring lines like fairway woods for a similar address look.
We’re excited to learn more about the new Titleist GT280 when Titleist is ready to reveal details. It’ll also be cool to see who’s on tour this week testing it out and putting it into play for Sentry, and we’ll be ready to share those details with you!
