Stephen Bunting not only does it have its own PDC World Darts Championships he dreams about it, but wants to show Manchester United fans what the trophy will look like if he seals Ally Pally’s glory.
Bunting moves on to the third round where he will face Madars Razma in the hope of completing his emphatic return to the donor elite.
He paced the pitch when Lakeside won and hopes to do the same again with Caoimhin Kelleher, who plays for Liverpool and is also a huge fan.
“I would like to do it again. I did it when I won the Lakeside trophy, but I didn’t have a huge fan base back then.
“I was walking around the pitch, no one knew who I was, and everyone was singing, ‘There’s only one Phil Taylor.’
“If I win this title, everyone will know who I am and maybe even a few people will support me. It’s a dream I can only think about at the beginning of the tournament.
“But yes, it will kind of push me forward and I would love to be able to do that.
“I’ll tell you what, continuing to fight against United is a dream come true, isn’t it?
“Can you imagine what the world champions trophy looks like? But I can imagine what Manchester United fans would shout at me!
He also spoke about Michael Smith and supports his recovery from his recent disappointment. “I probably won’t go see him, but I will send him a message. He knows how good he is.
“He probably went home right after the game. When you lose at this stage, it’s the worst place to be. And going into Christmas, he too has a young family.
“It’s then very difficult to come home and have a great Christmas when you work so hard to get into different worlds and then it’s all over in the blink of an eye.
“So I completely understand his disappointment and fortunately I’m not the one who goes home and has a bad Christmas.
“I feel completely sorry for him. I think my hypnotherapist probably contacted him and his family last year.
“I don’t know what happened there, but it didn’t happen. I am really happy with my hypnotist. It’s doing fantastic for me.
“Listen, you do things. Things like diet – you look for energy while playing.
“Every player is different, so I wouldn’t want to tell players ‘this is what you have to do’, but listen and learn from the best.”
