Teddy Bridgewater retired in the offseason after a ten-year NFL career and soon after became the football coach at his alma mater. Bridgewater and Miami Northwestern High this past weekend won the Class 3A state title in Florida.
Now that his first season as a high school coach has ended, the 32-year-old Bridgewater may return to the NFL.
“Hopefully, Coach Teddy, we’ll see how this week and a half, two weeks, or maybe signing with a team goes,” Bridgewater told NFL Network on Tuesday. “And then in February I’ll go back to coaching high school football. We’ll see”.
“That’s the plan,” the former quarterback said when asked if he was serious about a potential return. “My team knows this is the plan. We wanted to win a state championship and then coach would go back to the league and see what happened and then come back in February in the offseason and continue coaching high school football. We’ll see what it looks like. is taking place.”
If Bridgewater returns to the NFL, it would make sense for him to join a playoff team with hopes of winning a Super Bowl title. Two of his former teams, Detroit Lions AND Minnesota Vikingsthey have already secured their place in the postseason.
Bridgewater spent the 2023 season as a reserve Jared Goff in Detroit. He appeared briefly in one game and retired after the Lions collapsed San Francisco 49ers in the NFC title game.
In 2014, the Vikings drafted Bridgewater with the final pick in the first round. He took over as the starter four weeks into his rookie season and led Minnesota to the NFC North title in his second year. Following the 2015 Pro Bowl season, Bridgewater suffered a serious knee injury in August 2016 that nearly ended his career.
He eventually returned to the field in 2017 as a backup for Minnesota. He then joined New Orleans Saints for two seasons and started six games, assisting Drew Brees. From that moment on, he became a journeyman and completed one-year internships in… Panthers, Bronco, Dolphins and Lions and played 32 matches during this period.
Bridgewater has only played in one postseason game in his career. He started for the Vikings in the wild-card round against Seahawks in the 2015 season. On a frosty January day, Minnesota lost when kicker Blair Walsh missed a potential game-winning 27-yard field goal attempt.
Bridgewater appeared in 79 games in the NFL, throwing for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
