Łukasz Małyr surprised the darts world earlier this year by reaching the final of the World Darts Championship as a 16-year-old debutant. Since then, the English talent has consistently experienced events, winning as many as 10 titles in his debut year on the PDC Pro Tour.
Now it has been announced that Luke Littler is Google’s ‘Athlete of the Year’ in the annual search results. Google Search Year lets you find out which famous people were most searched for in 2024 and what the most frequently asked questions about them were in the UK.
Littler was named Athlete of the Year. In addition, the 17-year-old darter also placed third on the Person of the Year list, behind Kate Middleton and Donald Trump.

Littler’s development has also been recognized with his nominations for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year awards. After receiving the award, Littler said: “I’m really grateful for all the support people have given me and the growing interest in darts is amazing. I hope my journey will inspire more young people to take up this sport.”

Whether it’s fans reuniting as Oasis, young sports stars like Luke Littler making a splash or Brits voting in everything from the Eurovision elections, these searches show a nation brimming with passion and interest. Littler won the track and field category, ahead of soccer player Lamine Yamala and gymnast Simone Biles. Littler was third on the All People list, behind Kate Middleton and Donald Trump, but ahead of Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles in the top ten.
