Oliver Glasner explains that he took advantage of City’s lack of high-octane running and short sprint distances, with Palace finishing in the top quarter of the league for those metrics.
Glasner’s team continued their recent good form with a 2-2 draw Manchester City On the weekend, the home team might even emerge victorious. He admitted they could have gotten more, but explained he could live with the outcome. He was pleased with the team’s performance at Selhurst Park.
“We don’t feel unlucky, but it was certainly a good performance,” the Austrian coach said. “I think we can do better – I know the players, I see them in training. [There were] There are many, many positive things today.
Has the team learned how to play against Manchester City?
“It felt like, after taking the lead twice, we had moments where we were too passive and City were moving in the final third for too long and it was just a matter of time before they created a chance because the second goal was just ‘wow’, they were in those performance under the circumstances.
“Then we had a lot of other situations in transition where we lost the ball too quickly and too easily, and that’s where we have to improve.”
“We started really well, of course, we scored a great goal and then City had two or three chances. But overall it was a good performance and it’s a great week for us, Stay undefeated.”
Glasner explained how his team approached the game after seeing how other teams were successful against the defending champions. “City have a lot of possession every game but they are the lowest in terms of high intensity running and sprinting distance and we are fifth or sixth in the league.
“And their games. [Man City] This season they have lost against high-powered teams – Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton. “
“We talked about it and that’s our strength. The intensity and the runs that our full-backs and forwards can make in behind. We think that can help us win because it’s not easy to beat Manchester City with the ball – I don’t know that there is How many teams can do that, so you have to find different things, one is the intensity, one is the set pieces that work very well.”
Although Palace could have scored more, Glasner felt the result reflected the performance of the game in terms of chance creation. “We have to be fair, they had two good chances, [Erling] Haaland, great save from Dean [Henderson] and [Ilkay] Gundogan hits the post.
“We had two or three as well, so I thought it was going to be a really fun game for all of us. In the second half, it was a little bit more, it wasn’t as up and down because we also lost the ball pretty quickly in transition as well. , because City did well, but then we got our chances and scored from them, and overall I think the result was fair.”
The draw followed a 0-1 win over Ipswich Town in midweek and Crystal Palace are now unbeaten in four games. The game against Manchester City was another sign that Palace are heading in the right direction.
“Yeah, it’s confirmation of the result and I think a lot of the performance was [already] Well, we played well. We knew there were some problems and in every game when we lost we created enough chances to score and win.
“It also helped us get two points again today. As the system becomes more and more clear, especially with the new players, our defense is becoming more and more stable. It’s moving in the right direction.”
“But we’re still at the bottom of the table and that’s not where we want to be. So it’s still: keep going, work hard, try to improve, stay open, don’t be satisfied. So we stay hungry, stay ambitious and then We are moving in the right direction.”
