How Toulon Golf tells a story
The small town of La Jolla sits on the cliffs above the sparkling Pacific Ocean, about 10 miles north of San Diego. Spanish for “Jewel”.
Accessible to all and challenging to all, Torrey has hosted the PGA Tour for over 50 years. It has recently become a favorite stop for the USGA, hosting the 2008 and 2021 US Open classics.
These moments of personal greatness created some of the most iconic 18th green celebrations in the history of the game. Small Batch La Jolla pays tribute to the great championships celebrated on these cliffs.
La Jola
The heart of this putter is its sleek shoulder and bumper design and much squarer profile. Toulon spent time studying every aspect of both the San Diego design and the old favorite Santa Monica model in small batches.
The snake is now slightly moved away from the top line, a nod to the award-winning classic. The hose handle itself has been softened just like the rest of the body.
Toulon calls La Jolla “molten” tri-salt. You will see three sections that are slowly milled and lightly brushed on the sole. But as you run your fingers across the surface, you’ll feel subtle transitions from each section to the next. Even more attention was paid to the thickness and radius of the topline, giving the La Jolla a more vintage look.
The rear bumpers are slimmed down and the overall design focuses on a subtle three-sole sole. As always, hours were spent slowly machining the head so that its final finished state would reflect the complex process used to create its shape.
Once completed, the head is then hand polished to achieve depth and shine. The La Jolla face is milled using Toulon’s Ultra Fine Double Fly grind.
La Jolla is designed for modern play and weighs a modern 350 grams. The sole is minimally engraved with the La Jolla model name and is filled with Candy Red paint.
In addition, Toulon has combined it with a special Toulon Lamkin Deep Etched Cord handle and a chrome-plated, stepless steel shaft.
The circular fist-shaped pump icon on the back pays homage to the many celebrations, while the Toulon branding is subdued and unfilled. Inspired by the player who popularized the design (Toulon can’t name it in marketing materials, but we’re sure you can guess), the topline is decorated with a simple sight dot, and the headstock is finished in the Tour style of the brand’s Satin Haze.
