Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter of Colorado was named an Associated Press All-American to the first team twice and second team the other time, it was announced Monday.
Hunter and Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts were first-team selections again, and Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty was the only unanimous selection as he posted the highest single-season rushing total in college football history One of the achievements.
There are 24 schools on the first team, selected by a panel of the top 25 AP voters. Texas and Miami each have two players on the first team.
Hunter, last week’s Associated Press Player of the Year, is considered one of the greatest two-way college athletes since football moved away from such players in the 1940s. He was named first-team cornerback, first-team all-purpose player and second-team receiver.
The junior from Suwanee, Ga., totaled 1,443 snaps in 12 games for offense, defense and special teams, according to Pro Football Focus. He played at least 120 snaps in 10 games, including a season-high 170 snaps on Nov. 9 against Texas Tech. His snaps were limited in the other two games due to injuries.
Hunter declared for the 2025 NFL Draft last month and said he will play in Colorado’s game against BYU on Dec. 28 at the Alamo Bowl.
As a receiver, Hunter led the nation in receptions during the regular season with 92 receptions, 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. He led the nation with 21 catches of 20-plus yards per carry.
He had 31 tackles as a cornerback and led the nation with 11 tackles for loss and four interceptions. His biggest defensive performance came in Buffalo’s overtime win over Baylor, when he hit Dominic Richardson hard near the goal line to force a fumble on the final play.
Notre Dame’s Watts had five interceptions, tied for the most among safeties, and was responsible for six of the Irish’s nation-leading 28 takeaways. Against USC, he became the first Notre Dame player to return an interception for 100 yards. He was drafted 12 times by Notre Dame players in his career, the most since 1996.
Boise State’s Jeanty rushed for 2,497 yards, fourth in the FBS, and he had over 200 yards in six games. His 29 rushing touchdowns are tied for first in the nation.
