The United States The women’s national team’s January training camp has been moved to Florida because of wildfires in Los Angeles, US Soccer announced on Friday.
Training camp i parallel camp of the future featuring 24 USWNT prospects, will begin three days later than planned and will run from January 17-23 at the Florida Blue Training Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
The camps were scheduled to begin next Tuesday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
“The safety of our players and staff is always our top priority, and with wildfires still burning, many areas under a state of emergency, and air quality next week remaining unknown, we have made the decision to move camps,” US Soccer Director of Athletics Matt Crocker – wrote in the statement.
“Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragedy in Southern California, and our sincere gratitude goes out to all first responders and volunteers helping to deal with this tragedy. We also want to thank Inter Miami for welcoming us on such short notice and enabling us to run two training camps in a world-class facility.”
The U.S. men’s national team is also training at the Miami base in preparation for the match Venezuela at Chase Stadium on January 18, but the women’s team will begin camp once Mauricio Pochettino’s side finish their stay at the facility.
USWNT coach Emma Hayes is using the January camp to evaluate talent ahead of the 2027 Brazil World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“None of us know what the squad will look like in 2027, so I desperately want to make sure we have more players in better positions to help us compete at the highest level,” Hayes told reporters. on Wednesday.
