2024 Lakeside World Championship – Day 9

Updated: December 8, 2024

The eagerly anticipated clash between Jason Brandon and Paul Lim unfortunately ended in fiasco as the American struggled in doubles. Both fighters were evenly matched throughout the contest, but when it came to tightening their legs, Lim’s clinical finishing made the final result seem much more one-sided than it actually was. Brandon needed just 15 darts to secure the first half of the match, but needed another 15 darts before he achieved the winning double again.

I hesitate to go into all the gory details because it would serve no useful purpose. Suffice it to say that for 70-year-old Paul Lim, reaching the final of the World Championships in Lakeside – 42 years after his debut there – is a monumental achievement. There he will face the Irishman Shane McGuirk, who once again performed brilliantly and reached tomorrow’s final.

This isn’t how we wanted Jason Brandon’s week to end, but let’s be honest; he showed great form throughout the week and fully deserves to compete at the highest level. Sure, it will hurt, but he will come back stronger than ever. Jason is a credit to himself and the sport we love.

Before the Brandon-Lim match, we announced the finalists of the remaining events. It should be noted that unlike the men’s final, which features a 70-year-old, the women’s final features 20-year-old Beau Greaves and Sophie McKinly (18)!

Girls: Paige Pauling vs. Sophie McKinlay
Boys: Jenson Walker vs. Archie Self
Women: Beau Greaves vs. Sophie McKinlay
Men: Shane McGuirk vs. Paul Lim

The action starts at 5:00 p.m. local time (12:00 p.m. ET), can be watched on the WDF YouTube channel, and all results and match details can be found at DartConnect
