Double PDC World Darts Championships winner, Adrian Lewis he is widely viewed as one of the most naturally gifted players in the history of the sport. One of the key aspects of Lewis’ game at his peak was his scoring power, which was fueled by his almost effortless throwing style.
In a video published by MODUS Super Series on the X platformLewis breaks down the intricacies and nuances of his throwing style. “I do a few, I’m straight. I’m not one of those people like “MvG” (Michael van Gerwen) to have a foot like that (points to oche). I just like being straight,” begins “Jackpot.” . “Then the throw comes down to back, forward and release. That’s basically all it’s about.”
“Everyone always talks about different holds and stuff like that, but that’s just how I hold her. It’s comfortable and that’s the most important thing,” Lewis continues, showing exactly how he arranges the dart in his hand whenever he’s ready to throw.
There is also a growing discussion about the length of points in the modern game, especially as players such as Luke Littler and Gian van Veen have appeared on the scene with their extremely long points. For Lewis, however, the standard 30mm is still more than adequate. “I think with longer arrowheads the arrows have to fly at a certain angle,” he explains. “If they sit a bit like me, it’s not good because you have nothing to throw at. It suits a player with a flat shuttle better, at least that’s my opinion, whether I’m right or wrong, I don’t know!
After an almost two-year absence from the sport, Lewis is set to return to televised darting competitions in 2025 via MODUS Super series. For longtime fans of the sport, Lewis’ return to full fitness will be a very welcome sight!
