Several times in matches, including: Wesley Plaisier it seemed so Peter Wright exactly where he wanted him on Tuesday night in 2025 PDC World Darts Championships. Unfortunately for the Dutchman, he couldn’t take any chances as ‘Snakebite’ picked up a much-needed 3-1 victory.
“I had plenty of opportunities to change the result, especially in the second set I missed too many doubles,” Plaisier sadly recalls in his press conference after the match. “I also had a few chances in the last set. I knew before that Peter could be beaten and it showed today. But then you have to throw doubles.”

The Dutchman averaged a better score than his Scottish opponent, 93.77 to Wright’s 89.63, but with just 31% success in the outside ring, Plaisier failed to capitalize on the chances he created. “Of course I’m disappointed with this defeat,” he admits. “But certainly by scoring goals, I showed what I can do. If you throw doubles, the world looks completely different. But that’s another lesson because I felt some tension in important moments.”
“Peter also did what he had to do in important moments,” adds Plaisier, praising the two-time world champion. “That’s where you still notice the difference in experience with a player like me.”
Wesley Plaisier in action at the World Championships
Despite this disappointment, Plaisier can look back on an excellent year that included the WDF Dutch Open Darts final, a WDF World Masters victory and even a PDC Pro Tour victory. “I really think this was my best year ever. Currently, I am even among the top 64 in the world, even without a PDC Tour Card,” he says proudly. “I earned this Tour Card for next year, so hopefully I can keep that top 64 finish until this World Championship ends and then keep that prize money for the world rankings. So I will certainly continue to follow this World Championship with a keen eye in the coming days and weeks,” Plaisier laughed.
