Arsenal legend Martin Keown has commented on the Gunners’ need for a new striker, but suggests a high-profile target will not be the answer.
Talking to it Oxford MailThe former Arsenal defender has discussed his relationship with Keown Sporting Lisbon striker Victor GiocaresBut a concern does arise.
Although the Sweden international has been on fire for Sporting this season, scoring 26 goals in just 24 games in all competitions so far, Keun is concerned he is not dynamic enough.
Keon even joked that he didn’t think Gayokeres was pacey enough when he was playing!
Uncertain about Arsenal legend Victor Giocares

“(Gyokeres) isn’t fast enough and he wouldn’t have been fast enough in my day.”
However, he also made it clear that a new signing up front seems necessary, saying: “The players who are there at the moment need to start scoring goals quickly or Mikel will put his hand in his pocket and buy a forward. “
Geocares Arsenal Sure to be a popular January move for many fans as it’s hard to imagine him not continuing to score at a prolific rate in this team, but perhaps Keown is right that there are better options out there.
One concern with Gyokeres, apart from his speed, may be that he has yet to prove himself in Europe’s big five leagues.
The 26-year-old has done extremely well at Sporting, but was previously playing in the Championship with Coventry City, so stepping into the Premier League would indeed be a step into uncharted territory.
Arsenal may do better to consider more proven players at this level, such as Aleksandar Isak, or else a talented young player like Benjamin Cesko, who is still young enough to develop and fine-tune his game to become an elite-level forward.
