Wesley Plaisier On Monday afternoon, he struggled to qualify for the second round of the World Darts Championships. The Dutchman had to give his all to beat Ryusei Azemoto.
Azemoto was one of the unknown participants in the World Darts Championships. However, the Asian could definitely throw a dart, and with his slow pace and enthusiastic celebration on stage, he wasn’t the most pleasant opponent to play with either.
In the first set, Plaisier missed a doubles match. In the first two matches he wasted opportunities and led 0-2. A 21-darter took him to 1-2, but the set then went to his Japanese opponent with a 13-darter. The Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht player then made it 2-0 in the second set, but he missed four sets in the fourth game. Azemoto increased the score to 2-2, although the set was still 3-2 for Plaisier.
Plaisier failed to advance, losing five doubles in the first game of the third set. He then fell behind 0-2 and had to forfeit the set 3-1 after Azemoto threw a 19-darter in the fourth game.
Azemoto then also won the first game of the fourth set before the turning point came in the return match. Plaisier finally shot a 180 and then made more and more three-pointers. He took the lead with a score of 96 and 13 shots, and Plaisier tied the set 3-1 with 15 shots.
The fifth set had to decide the winner. Plaisier got off to a great start, keeping his own leg at 98. Azemoto wasted six chances to equalize before Plaisier shot 23 for a 2-0 lead. The Dutch darter then finished with a 16-darter. Plaisier will be able to return to the Ally Pally stage on Tuesday night.
