Valencia appoint West Brom boss Carlos Corberan as new head coach

Valencia announced West Brom Boss Carlos will be their new head coach on a contract until June 2027.

The La Liga strugglers sacked Ruben Barraza on Monday after picking up just 12 points from their first 17 games and immediately looked to former youth player Corberan.

The Baggies confirmed the deal on Christmas Eve after compensation reported to be in the region of €3m (£2.49m). Valencia officially announced their new man early on Christmas Day.

A statement from Valencia’s official website read: “Carlos Corberan has been appointed coach of Valencia CF, signing a contract until 2027.

“A buy-out option was taken into his contract with West Bromwich Albion to allow him to leave.”

The Spaniard joined West Brom in October 2022 and led them from the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone to the top 10 before defeat in the play-off semi-finals. Southampton Last season

They have also started this term positively and currently sit seventh, just outside the play-off places on goals alone.

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel wrote in X: “Would like to thank Carlos for all his hard work since arriving at Albion during one of the most challenging times in the club’s modern era.

“I am grateful for his contributions and wish Carlos and his family the best in his new journey!”

Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill will oversee first-team duties until further notice, the Championship club have confirmed.
