Graphite shafts are common in your drivers and woods, but you may not have considered them for your irons because steel is the material of choice for most golfers.
However, continued advances in technology and innovation have made graphite a more favorable option, not only for older golfers and those who need a lighter club to swing.
Golfshake equipment expert, Ryan Rastallhe admitted that he is a bit prejudiced against graphite rollers for irons, but he spends time with them KBS he radically changed his point of view, opening the door to creating even more opportunities for golfers to find the perfect setup for their game.
Interview with a KBS Tour representative Paul SteelsRyan had heard all about the benefits of graphite and why more golfers should consider using it in their irons, but definitive proof would come from thorough testing.
From his Indoor Performance Center at ul Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds, Ryan compared his steel shafts with the latest graphite shafts from KBS.
To make the study accurate, Ryan used a Ben Hogan 7 iron for the experiment, matching equivalent heads that were made with the exact same loft and position, and swing-weighting them to ensure they were as similar as possible, but with each golf club uses a different shaft.
Starting with KBS’ own steel shaft, Trip V (120 grams)Ryan then fired shots using a series of KBS graphite shafts in form TGI (110 grams), PGI (90 grams) AND Max (85 grams)to provide an accurate comparison to showcase the benefits of graphite and explain how the right shaft can be a game changer in many ways, whether it be the desire for a lighter club, increased dispersion control, or assistance with ball flight.

Let’s take a closer look at the graphite shafts featured and what they can offer you.
KBS TGI
It was created for those golfers who most desire a shaft that feels like steel while offering similar control and performance to a graphite shaft. This is the first KBS graphite shaft that performs similarly to KBS Steel, with optimized weight and stiffness.
KBS PGI
Created by master shaft manufacturer Kim Braly, KBS PGI is another graphite shaft that provides comparable performance to steel, offering the same tight tolerances, dispersion and control, but in the form of a lighter and easier shaft swing.
KBS MAX
Finally, based on the KBS MAX steel shaft design, this graphite version is designed to help golfers with slower swing speeds hit the ball higher. This efficient graphite iron shaft will provide improved trajectory, spin and distance in a consistent, lightweight package.
