It’s been an interesting few months since I returned to work full time. Balancing conflicting interests has always been and is one of the most difficult things in a darts career.
I managed to catch up with Lakeside though and it was very intriguing to see one of our MODUS Super Series mates, Shane McGuirk, doing so well. As I write this, he is in the semi-finals and regularly averaging 90+. He is certainly capable of causing a surprise.
The full time work cycle, darts, work, training and then matches etc all come together and the next thing you know it’s Christmas and Ally Pally time!
I know you have two Lukes, Humphries and Littler, that everyone will rant and rave about. But my wild card, I dare say, is the veteran himself, Gary Anderson.
Ando plays very well and reserves his energy wisely by not traveling too much. He always performs well on important occasions, often doesn’t leave early and often gives very good value. So let’s move from one elder statesman to another and see how the Flying Scotsman fares this time.
I was very impressed with “young” Mike De Decker. Not only the Grand Prix victory, but also his behavior since then. He has remained very calm and doesn’t seem to get carried away, he could be another one to watch.
On a fun note, I went to the Charlie Piches Memorial Service in Burton and had a really nice time there. In 5 matches until the final I didn’t lose more than one leg. The final was a tougher fight against local legend Ricky Sudale. We had argued a lot over the years and this time I had a 6-4 advantage, which meant it was a very worthwhile day.
The festive season is shaping up to be as hectic as ever, but this time I’m taking a leaf out of Beaton’s legendary playbook and heading out for some winter sunshine outside Q School.
In the meantime, I am sending you all Magical Wishes for a wonderful Christmas and abundance in 2025!
