Xander Schauffele will be out for more than one tournament.
Schauffele withdrew this week from American Express in La Quinta, California, with his manager citing a “medical reason.” Now Schauffele will miss his first Farmers Insurance Open since making his Torrey Pines debut in 2016 as a member of the Korn Ferry Tour.
He will also not participate in Tuesday’s second TGL event hosted by the New York Golf Club. Schauffele took part in the league’s first match two weeks ago but handed over the duties to teammates Rick Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young.
The world No. 2 opened the new year with a T-30 display at The Sentry in Kapalua.
Schauffele’s absence coincides with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler’s sideline injury due to a right hand injury, specifically a stab wound from broken glass he suffered while preparing Christmas dinner. He was initially scheduled to return to La Quinta, although this did not happen.
The next flagship event on the PGA Tour schedule will be the tournament taking place from January 30 to February. 2 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
